Posted by O.J. in Fun & Games.

Simple, straight forward test, with quite accurate results (at least for me).  This is what the test had to say about the author of “The Theme”:

Brain Type:  “Strategizer”

“Precocious planner”, imaginative, alert to possibilities; quick thinking; likes complexity; computer proficient; enjoys one-up manship; enthusiastic, outspoken, artistic, comedic, manipulative, spontaneous, entrepreneurial; logical abstraction skilled.

Take the ‘Brain Type’ Test and share your results…

Just Another Brain Teaser November 10, 2006

Posted by O.J. in Fun & Games.

This one is pretty tough.  The designers of this brain teaser assume you are somewhat computer literate.  According to the instructions, they want you to ‘think like a hacker’!

Once you pick up momentum though, it gets a little easier.

There are 23 pages in total.  I got stuck on 22.  How far can you go?

Hint:  Make sure you have Google or Wikipedia open in another window.  They might come in handy at some point.

What Is Your Brain Age? October 22, 2006

 BrainBrain Age

Well, Brain Age is a measure, in terms of age, of how efficient, quick, and powerful your brain works.  Just like the body, you need to constantly train your brain or else it becomes weak and lazy.  By training your brain, I don’t just mean your regular everyday reading, thinking, writing and speaking.  I’m talking about specific puzzles, equations, and drills that allow you to use all parts of the brain.

It seems that only certain parts of your brain light up when you are working on -let’s say- a quantum physics equation.  However, when working with quick, rapid, simple equations, your whole brain lights up.  So, a large part of your Brain Age is basically the speed in which you can react to and answer simple and rapid questions, in addition to memory, words, speech, colors, and puzzle solving.

Training your brain each day supposedly helps keep your brain working and in shape.  According to Japanese neuroscientist Ryuta Kawashima, the ultimate Brain Age is 20.  Brain Age, unlike IQ, is not an estimate of intelligence but rather a measure of brain activity.  Keeping your brain active is a way of preventing memory loss and reducing the risk of senility or Alzheimer’s.

The other day, I was introduced to a Brain Age program on a handheld device.  The device is the new Nintendo DS (pictured below) and the software is called “Brain Age, Train Your Brain in Minutes A Day!”, which was created by Dr. Kawashima in collaboration with Nintendo.  Within minutes of turning on the device I was being hit with rapid math problems and scribbling the answer down using the device’s stylus pen.  It is really impressive! The software also includes Sudoku puzzles, memory games, word-colour combo games, and many more exercises to stimulate the brain.

First time I took the test, I got a Brain Age of 34.  The second time, I got a Brain Age of 28.  Not too bad considering how absent-minded and forgetful I am.  I’m definitely going to buy myself one of these devices while in London.  I don’t expect to get any smarter, but maybe I’ll stop forgetting where I put my car keys…

Answer twelve simple questions relating to your personality to find out which sports car you are.

This was my result:

You are a Chevrolet Corvette!

You’re a classic – powerful, athletic, and competitive.  You’re all about winning the race and getting the job done.  While you have a practical everyday side, you get wild when anyone pushes your pedal.  You hate to lose, but you hardly ever do.

So, which sports car are you?  Try it out for yourself here.

I’m a huge fan of brain teasers.  Nothing better than an intelligent quiz or puzzle to stimulate the mind.

My favourite of all brain teasers are room escpae games.  The game always starts with you waking up in a strange room or a chamber.  You don’t know how you got there but somehow you must escape.  There are tips, clues, and hints along the way.

The site below has four of the most creative room escape games.  Start with the Crimson Room, then the Viridian Room, followed by the Blue Chamber, then the White Chamber.

Good luck and enjoy! [Enter the chamber]

Here is a 2-page sound board with sound bites of some of his most hysterical phrases. Everything from “I like you” to “Sexy time”, and even the famous line “My wife…she is dead”.

Follow the link and have some fun with this. Enjoy. [Borat]

Stick Arena August 19, 2006

XGen Studios has created an entertaining Flash Game that features over-the-top multiplayer action in any browser.  In this top-down battle, you take the role of a stick figure aiming to kill everyone else in sight to elevate yourself within the ranks.  Gameplay consists of basically running around until you can find some kind of a weapon, and then beating some poor stick to death with it. To do the most damage, however, you will need to find some kind of a gun to start killing everything in sight.

The game has an array of options including: 17 different maps, quality selector to suit the speed of your computer, chat with users, change the color of your cursor, toggle the blood from “On” to “Off” or “Savage”, etc. There is a tutorial and, although it is short, it does explain pretty much everything you’ll need to know.

The game allows you to play as a guest, or you could spend the 5 seconds it takes to register. Registering is free and it’s worth it, because you’ll be able to rank up. Ranking is dependant on how many kills you get. It’s surprisingly action-packed, addictive, and well made; so what are you waiting for?
