A “Wicked” Prank! January 29, 2007

The word “wicked” in the title above has a double meaning.  In today’s slang terminology, wicked could mean:  cool, excellent, very good; or as the Oxford Dictionary describes the word, wicked could mean:  evil, bad, immoral.  The prank I’m about to describe walks a thin line between both meanings – at least in my opinion.

A prankster at heart, I seldom let an opportunity pass where I can play a practical joke on a friend or colleague.  I do it all…from spontaneous pranks, to fully thought out and pre-planned pranks.  TV shows that are guaranteed to have me on the floor laughing include Punk’d, Scare Tactics, Jackass, and the various Candid Camera shows.

Understanding Your Body Fat Percentage January 21, 2007

I’ve been regularly attending a private gym since September 2006.  I have a personal trainer who structured a challenging work-out program for me with the aim of losing body fat, toning my body, and improving my fitness.

Last week, after completing just over 3 months of strenuous training, it came time for a fitness exam.  They tested my VO2 Max (which is the volume of oxygen you can consume while exercising at your maximum capacity), my body fat percentage, and my flexibility.  The results of my fitness exam were very satisfying; but what stood out most was my body fat percentage of 18%.  Now, I’m a pretty thin guy, and I’ve been working out religiously for the last 3-4 months.  I never expected to have so much fat in my body! Well, considering the many food articles I’ve posted on ‘The Theme’, its pretty obvious I’m not a very healthy eater…

Anyhow, I found my body fat percentage to be quite shocking, so I did a little research and decided to share the results with you.

Video: Paula Abdul’s Wackiest Interview Yet January 15, 2007

There is no way ‘The Theme’ can allow an incident like this to pass under the radar.

Paula Abdul, the kind-hearted, supportive, and bubbly judge on the extremely popular TV show ‘American Idol’, might be drinking a little too much bubbly these days.

Paula’s most recent interview, which was conducted to help promote the upcoming new season, was an utter disaster and a complete embarrassment to her and the show.  Paula’s antics have always been a little too weird for my liking; but at least she still fell under the “normal” category.  Well, not anymore folks!!

Slurred words, a crooked smile, twitching, and just plain obnoxious.  Drunk?  Stoned?  You be the judge…

“24” Returns With A Bang! January 15, 2007

 Jack Bauer

Just when I was about to throw in the towel and quit watching 24, I come across dozens of articles in which TV critics hail the new season.

In my books, 24 was at the end of its lifeline.  I had heard rumours prior to the beginning of Season 5, that it was to be the last season for the show.  So, when Fox announced last year that 24 had been signed on for another 5 seasons, I was utterly shocked!!  The show has been in a down-hill spiral since Season 3, and almost all the original, and very much loved, characters have been killed off.  “Where does the show go from here?” I asked myself.  “How many more dreadful days can Jack Bauer have?”

For me, 24 was in ICU.  I would give Season 6 the chance to impress me with the first 2 – 3 episodes.  If the writers and producers stick to the same boring, repetitive and complex storylines, 24 will be dead to me.

However, looks like 24 will be rejuvenated; and luckily, fans of the show are in for the shock of their life.  The following is what TV critics are saying about the first few episodes of Season 6:

Oh no they di-in’t!

Kiefer should win an Emmy for his first five minutes on screen alone.

This damn show has done it again.

Just when you thought you knew the formula, knew the players, could possibly predict what might happen next, the storyline bitch-slaps you into an entirely different hemisphere. And oh, it is good!

The end of the fourth episode will leave you speechless.

With exciting reviews like these, how can I turn my back on 24?  It sounds like this could be the show’s best season yet.  Fox is airing a 2-night 4-hour season premiere in which episodes 1 & 2 (7 a.m. – 8 a.m. and 8 a.m. – 9 a.m.) aired yesterday, and episodes 3 & 4 (9 a.m. – 10 a.m. and 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.) will air today.

For those following the show, this is what Jack Bauer is expected to look like after 20 months of Chinese torture:

As for me, I’m most definately looking forward to a 24-filled weekend.  I’m almost positive all the local DVD/movie-rental joints will have all 4 episodes by Thursday.  So for all of you who don’t want to wait for the official DVD release in November, and don’t mind watching the show over a span of 4 months, I suggest you head over to your preferred DVD joint ASAP.

Update: iPhone Unveiled January 10, 2007

 iPhone

One of The Theme’s first posts back in August 2006, was the eventual release of the much anticipated and talked about iPhone

Well, Apple Inc. has now officially introduced the iPhone to the world.  The Apple website now has an iPhone tab giving details on the many features this so-called “revolutionary” phone has to offer.

The photos I posted on my blog were mockups of what many had expected the iPhone to look like.   Turns out there were over 10 different Photoshop mockups circulating on the internet.  It’s very interesting to see how different the official design of the iPhone is when compared to the previous mockups.  You can see images of all the past mockups here.

I don’t expect the iPhone to be released in the Middle East until 3rd quarter 2007.  But when it finally does, I’m almost certain that I’ll be in the market for a new phone…

 Fitness

With the start of a new year, scores of people have flocked to sign up with Amman’s newest, biggest, and most talked about fitness club – VY Life Gym.

Each new year brings with it numerous New Year resolutions, the most common of which involve joining a gym or fitness club.  While many have already signed up with their local fitness clubs, for those well-intentioned souls who plan to stick to their New Year’s resolutions but have have yet to join a gym, here are a few fundamental issues one should consider prior to becoming a member:
